"Healing doesn't mean the damage never existed.
It means the damage no longer controls our lives."

Rising Up Counseling, LLC

Clinical Services

Services + Resources

Clinicians practicing at Rising Up, LLC are trained in mind/body practices in addition to traditional models of therapy.

Mind/body practices are designed to support the processing and releasing of imprints held in the body from difficult life experiences. These imprints are often referred to as “trauma”. Your provider will actively listen to your story, the impact of life events on your functioning and relationship with self and others, and work with you to determine the best course of treatment to support your healing and recovery.

Rising Up offers the following mind/body treatment modalities:

  • Brainspotting

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Somatic experiencing

  • Polyvagal therapy

Additional information regarding these evidence-based treatment options is available below. You may also speak with a provider at Rising Up to see which treatment/s are right for you.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting seeks to understand the mind-body connection and relive the body of the physical pain caused by emotional distress. Your provider will work with you to identify, process and release core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, and dissociation.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) employs a body-based technique called bilateral simulation, during which a therapist will guide a client through through eye movements, tones, or taps in order to move a memory that has been incorrectly stored to a more functional part of the brain.

Somatic experiencing

Somatic experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented therapeutic model that helps people understand the body's response to trauma. By gently guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions, SE aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies.

Polyvagal therapy

Trauma compromises our ability to engage with others by replacing patterns of connection with patterns of protection. Polyvagal therapy works to re-pattern the ways the autonomic nervous system operates when the drive to survive competes with the longing to connect with others.
